Love
Love is what we are about. Sometimes we do it well, sometimes we don’t. But we have faith, and lots of it. So that said, here is what we do one day at a time, one step at a time.
After School Program
We love our 30 children as if they were our own. Some come from stable families, most do not. Most families in Dahley are just a day away from being on the streets. While in our program we serve a hot meal, teach English, work on their academics- We train our teachers on a regular basis, send them to English School and encourage them to think outside the box. We also meet with our parents and families to hear their concerns and dreams. Our afterschool is a community based holistic approach to working with the folks of Dahley.
Habti’s House
In the begining we built a house- Habti’s House. And we were so humbled to come along side this amazing man to re-unite his family of 8. What began as a dream turned into reality and morphed into a dream to provide encouragement to the poorest of Dahley. Soon we were supporting a woman and her three very undernourished children-they had just come from the streets of Addis and were looking for a chance. Having secured a very small mud hut to live in, 6BE is now providing discipleship, food, blankets and meals for this family in hopes that by next school year the children will be strong enough to go to school- freeing up the mother to work.
In 2011 we are building another home on a property that belongs to a family in Dahley.
The Library Health Center
Is a community center with scheduled activities a couple days of week which include: English classes, health education and activities with the community children. A typical day the community program will work with over 30 children from the community!
Community Projects-Chicks for Chicks
Some of community projects include: giving 2 hens and one rooster to a family. This year we saw many of the hens produce chicks which were then given to another family in need!! The chickens provide eggs to eat and the potential to sell the surplus. We love our chicks- and the chicks from the US that helped us launch our “chicks for chicks” project.
We are also starting a small chicken farm in order to push back on inflation in Ethiopia where food prices have doubled in 4 months! We will have 25-50 chickens to gather eggs to feed the children in our community program and for families in critical need.
Folks in Dahley are hungry-some more than others-some very hungry. We try to provide at least one community meal a month where we gather together as a community to break bread and share life. Each month we serve over 600 meals.
